LTC Richard R. Garey
LTC Garey assumed command in March 2013. Under his command, the unit was deployed to Afganstan, February 27th to November, 2014 operating as Combined Task Force Lethal, part of Operation Enduring Freedom at Forward Operating Base Apache. During his tour, the unit experienced some heavy action.

He was the battalion commander from March 2013 until March 2015. His next assignment was running the ROTC program at Penn St. Following this, he retired from the service. He is currently employeed in the private sector.
2013-2015


2015-2017
LTC Paul W. Staeheli
LTC Staeheli assumed command in March 2015. Under his command, the unit was sent to Ft Knox in June, 2015 to run Task Force Lethal,  to led  U.S. Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps Cadet Summer Training, or CST, gives future Army officers the individual and unit leadership skills necessary to lead Soldiers. The next year the unit was deployed to Afganistan as part of Operation Freedom's Sentinel - February to November ,2016. This was the six deployment for the 2-12th in the past twelve years.

Since leaving this post, Col. Paul Staeheli, USA, is the director, Army Capability Manager-Mission Command/Command Post. He holds a Master of Strategic Studies from the United States Army War College, an M.S. in defense analysis terrorist operations and financing from the Naval Postgraduate School and a B.S. in biology from the University of Portland

2017-2019
LTC Kirby "Bo" Dennis
LTC Dennis assumed command in March 2017. Under his command, the unit was sent to Grafenwoehr, Germany as part of an Emergency Deployment Readiness Exercise (EDRE) where they trained for two weeks before returning to Ft Carson. In the fall the unit went to the National Training Center to prep for the unit's seventh deployment to Afghanistan. From February to November 2018, the unit was part of Operation Freedom's Sentinel located at Kandahar.

Since leaving this post, LTC Dennis was assigned to a fellowship for a year. Following this he was assigned to Ft Campbell as the G-3 in the 101st ABN where he was promoted to the rank of Colonel. Two years later, June 2022  his new assignment is the commander of the 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Divsion at Ft Bliss, El Paso, TX.

LTC Jose Vasquez
2019-2021
LTC Vasquez assumed command in March 2019 through 2021. Due to the COVID outbreak, the majority of the time, the unit remained on the post. Since the post was closed to visitors during this time, interaction was non-existant.


2021-2023
LTC Thomas F. Carroll
LTC Carroll assumed the command March 2021. As he took over the battalion, the 2nd Brigade began the transition from foot infantry to a Stryker brigade. After two years of intensive training, both on the post and with field exercises at JRCT, Ft Polk, LA. the unit is ready to be deployed and flex their muscles.

LTC Carroll leaves Ft Carson for Ft Irwin, San Bernardino County, Cal to serve as the Chief of Operations, Light Infantry Task Force Senior Trainer at the National Trainng Center or NTC. An important stop for units deploying, to practice their large scale tactics in urban villages or open settings prior to departure. Mostly it a training facility for units practicing against an opposing and or insurgent forces and at times getting a dual threat..
